The Rise of Magager
Even before the 1930s, a small place in the center of Portugal was born in Sítio da Lage, the one that would become the reference and “Alma Mater” of our company and which even today continues to impart its knowledge of experience made to its service and its customers.
His story, with regard to what matters here, begins when, as a child, in places with such magical names as “Quinta da Arranhada” or “Lapa do Texugo” he would ensure that a donkey did not interrupt his mission to take water, walking around a well turning a waterwheel or device. These mills, in fact, were already the main occupation of his father, a blacksmith by profession, who throughout his region took care of their installation and maintenance.
Sometimes the water failed to run in the trenches and reach the remote yard where his mother watered. Then she would find not only the donkey resting, but also her son taking a nap, sheltered from the scorching heat, under the cave of the so-called “badger”.
This, maybe it happened many times, maybe few, maybe once, maybe none, but the legend remains and from here, at this point or a few years later, he had the idea of developing alternatives that would avoid the donkey's fatigue and the interruption of the tasks.
This is how the company "António Marques Boavida" was born, which in the 60s and 80s was a reference not only in the region, but throughout the country. It created the registered trademark "AGER", patented several models of irrigation pumps , with the self-developed closure of a quality unanimously recognized as unique.
At that time, rural areas with electricity could be counted on the fingers of one hand. At that time, the strong point of the market were the irrigation motor-pump groups driven by petroleum lighting engines (kerosene). The first experiences he made were with motorcycle engines.
Later he was the exclusive representative for Portugal of the explosion engines "ROTAX" of the Bombardier group and "MAG" engines of the charmilles group, whose main reference was the "mirage" planes.
